I need to create an AAF for my sound mixer who uses Pro Tools to work on audio post. My project was shot in Red and I edited it using FCPX. I first exported an XML from FCPX, and imported the XML to X2Pro5. I couldn’t export a media-embedded version because X2Pro5 can’t recognize the clips’ names that are from the Red camera and kept aborting me during the conversion process. So I chose to export a version without media embedded and my sound mixer told me there should be a media folder that contains all the media used in the project in the download. After conversion, the result contains three things: .aaf, .aaf.log, .txt, but no media folder. Can you tell me why and how to solve this issue?

        Dear Phoebe,

We should be able to read the R3D media directly as they supplied and we put into our code their SDK to read their media. Would you be able to run the first project you had and forward us a copy of the fcpxml and the error message you see please.

We will either embed the audio or link to it in the AAF created depending on what settings you have used. We don’t create a separate folder containing the individual media files. Your editor might be suggesting you move all the media in the project to one folder, relink this to the project, then generate an AAF (with links to and not embedded media), then forward him the AAF and sidecar report file as well as a copy of the media file folder. I suggest we look at the initial R3D issue until we understand what your PT Editor wanted.

Why you would choose to not embed media is that you can get some pretty massive sized AAF’s and it will take ProTools a while to actually open them.

        Yours Sincerely

        James.
