      Hello,

Used X2Pro for years. Not often, but when I need it, it has always come through. So now I have a new job with 30 minute doc. I do audio post, which is why I need X2Pro (client does not own). I was given the drive with the FCPX project and all the media on it. I opened it — latest version 11.1.1 — and exported a reference video and an XML. Not knowing which version of XML, I export the 3 versions FCPX lets you export: 1.11, 1.12, & 1.13. This is on a Apple Mac Studio M2 Ultra, 64 GB RAM, OS 15.6.1. Project is on an external NVME SSD.

Great! Let’s open X2Pro5. Won’t translate to an AAF. I restarted. I triple checked permissions. I double-checked the security setting in the OS. Same issue no matter which version of XML I tried to translate. Screenshot attached.

Then I decided to put the XML in X2Pro Audio Convert 4.5.16. Et Voilá! I got an AAF that works great!

Why did I upgrade? I read the “Why Upgrade”.

      Enhanced media management

X2Pro5 will check the project and see if there are any media files in locations that it does not currently have access to
These locations are shown in a list, which will highlight the top level of any required locations at the top
The required locations can be added by either dragging and dropping them onto the application or by navigating to them
Once new locations are added, the list will refresh and show the updated status

This didn’t help. Still cannot get it to work.

But the AAF from the previous version does.

Anybody have insight into what might be happening?

        Dear Minister
We had to create a new way of working with the latest AppleChip set going forward. The code uses a different language and has to work in a different way, there are advantages and disadvantages to this. A quirk is that X2Pro is less likely to be stopped when querying bookmarks.

Would be very grateful if you could confirm whether the Red media called A001_C007_0101QL_001.r3d, is located in /volumes/full Stops/Full Stops 2030 Show.fcpbundle/Performance Red Shawn 20061124/Original Media/A001_C007_0101QL/

If it does not exist there, does the clip exist as a Proxy also in the FCPXML ? If you can attach the FCPXML we can can check.

        Many thanks

        James.

          Hi James,

          Thanks for the response.

The Director/Editor had to grab the drive from me, so I don’t have it any more. I will post the XML once he emails it to me.

              Hi Minister

I cannot see anything wrong with the XML’s and there is only one reference to the r3d file. We use the same r3d sdk in both X2Pro and X2Pro5 so there is probably nothing wrong with the essence itself. Things that are different is that Apples security in bookmarks appears to be slightly different between code built in ObjectC and code built in Swift for the latest chip set. R3D files generally contain multiple files, and the bookmark references the first in the string of files, but not the subsequent ones. Have tried to reproduce the same failure here in the lab but cannot, however I think the issue is that we cannot read the subsequent files that make up the r3d file that is referenced.

Did you add the containing folder for this r3d file in the X2Pro5 configuration as a media location. i.e. file:///Volumes/Full%20Stops/Full%20Stops%2030%20Show.fcpbundle/Performance%20Red%20Shawn%20061124/Original%20Media/
If you did then we need to look at something else being the cause, if you did not then I guess you are not now in a position to try ?

If you still have access to the AAF you created using X2Pro, if you load it into ProTools do you see a file called “A001_C007_0101QL_007” in it, and is there audio with it ?

              Yours Sincerely

              James

Thanks for the response James. Though I don’t know code, I believe I follow what you are saying at least at a conceptual level.

When I tried to get this to work, I dragged in all of the folders into the Media Locations. They were all contained on that drive. Oh, also, I made sure that I had permissions to all files on that drive.

As I said, and you understood, I don’t have the drive any more. I can get a clone of it and once I have that, I can circle back to this. It might be instructive. Perhaps you have hit upon the issue with R3D files. Or maybe this is a fluke.

                  I’ll be in touch.

                    Hi Minister,

Understood, we were looking at not going to the root of the folder but as it was a r3d file going right down to the folder that contained the (first) r3d file. Bookmarks by design are opaque as its Apple security feature. In theory there should not be a difference between an ObjectC program reading it and a Swift program reading it but there must be however slight as that is the difference between X2pro and X2pro5. Happy to look into it, as we would like to get to the bottom of it, if you get the drive back.

Yours Sincerely and many thanks for your patience.

                    James.
