      Hi there,

I’m having the same issues as others in this thread. Every time I load my XML and begin the conversion process I get a ‘Cannot Open’ message. I am on a very intense deadline and this is causing massive problems. Could you please assist. I’ve attached the XML.

      Thanks,
      Jacques

        Hi Fermento

The issue appears to be that the XMLD you attached is corrupt, if you try to import it back into FCP you will get a catastrophic error. Can you check whether you have sent the correct XMLD please.

        Yours Sincerely

        James.

          Hi Fermento,

The xmld you attached is corrupt the one’s you sent the link to, we do have a fix for you in 5.0.53. We have submitted a build of this to the AppStore, once they are happy with it we can release it, we do not expect that to be till Monday. In the meantime we will send you a link to a fix outside of the AppStore.

          Yours Sincerely

          James.

            Hi Jacques,

Yes have looked at your 2026.07.10-Mantis-picture-lock-for-AAF.fcpxmld and yes the 5.0.53 will resolve this. We expect the release on the AppStore on Monday, however as you may be in a pickle, will forward a temporary fix to your email.

            Yours Sincerely

            James.

              Hi All,
5.0.53, which most of you have tried as an RLM is now available to download from the AppStore.

Yours Sincerely and thanks for your patience.

              James.

I just purchased the new version of XP (ver 5.0.53) after upgrading my Mac. Now on Mac mini M4 – Tahoe 26.5.1 and….. having the same issue I see on this thread. When I push go on X2P it just gives me a pop up error saying ‘Cannot Open’

So it seems this still needs to be addressed!!!

BUT… I found a hack (for all those other people that get stuck on a deadline like me). It seems that X2P hates the audio structure of mxf files. My Sony FX6 records 8 channels of audio, but channels 5 to 8 never have audio on them. THat’s potentially the issue. But anyway, the way I got around it was to export my interviews as .wavs and replace the audio (time consuming!) and delete the mxfs completely. Even the video had to be deleted. Then it successfully created Xmas which would turn into .aaf files using X2P.

FYI for anyone who cares… I prefer the old X2pro – I never had any issues with it ever.

                  Dear DD,

Thanks for your workaround, the problem is that Cannot Open can be a standard Mac response to any number of issues it has. I assume in the Cannot Open you were seeing warnings about individual files. As we are sending to PT it might be easier to generate proxies of the Sony MXF files.

We all here do appreciate that X2pro was more tolerant but it was using the old code base which was more open which is one of the reasons Apple insisted we moved to the newer code base.

We have to use Apple’s own AVFoundation to open up MXF’s and it does not like all flavours of MXF, previously we could use QT and what ever we wanted.

If you have a sample of the Sony media you were using, we would be happy to look at it to confirm it is AVFoundation.

                  Yours Sincerely

                  James.

                    Hi thanks for your reply.

I’ve just been playing with it again and have discovered with a test MXF clip the AAF process fails (cannot open) if the MXF files have been dragged into FCP rather than if they have been imported using the FCP import window. When I import using the window the AAF process works.

Typically I drag files into FCP, and I think most others do also.

I’ve also attached two XMLs from FCP. The ‘tcp test project dragged in’ is the one that failed to create an AAF

And I’ve attached the clip XML from the camera – Sony FX6

                      Dear DD,

Have tried to import both XMLD’s back into FCPX but they both come back with an error attached. If I try to open either XML in a text editor they look corrupted.

Could you zip the xmld your end and then attach this please.

I think what you are seeing is the difference in bookmarks, i.e. one is stale and one is correct, but we really need the xmld’s if you can attach them again please to be sure.

                      Yours Sincerely

                      James.
