KeymasterHi Aurore,
As mentioned to J and Adam, the reason they get a “cannot open” is because we are trying to read audio from file(s) that do not have it. Once we have a fix we will advise.
“Cannot Open” is essentially an Apple error, but due to security and bookmarks the OS does not want to detail why it cannot open and what it cannot open, so the error gets generated and we have to determine what the issue is.
“Cannot Open” can be due rights and access to the media, it can also occur if AVFoundation does not like the media or is an unsupported codec. “Cannot Open” can be generated if you use something other than an XMLD in the source window, or a folder in the destination window.
If you are getting “Cannot Open” then we need some context as to when you are seeing this, and if you can upload the XMLD you are trying to process so we can check it here. Alternatively you can always try to re-import the XMLD back into FCP and see if you get any errors or warnings.
If you can detail the error you are getting and upload the XMLD we can investigate and advise.
Yours Sincerely
James.

ParticipantHello,
Is there any update? I’m hoping to have this exported as soon as possible. Please keep me in the loop. My supervisors are getting frustrated as we are falling behind schedule. Thank you for your hard work – I look forward to hearing from you.08/07/2026 at 9:46 am #1494James Carrick
KeymasterDear Adam,
It was passed to development yesterday, once they believe they have resolved in the code, they need to create a build that then needs to be tested, if this is ok, we can then create a temporary RLM build for you to try, this may take a day or two at the earliest. To push a build through the AppStore, requires a build to be submitted for their testing and once they are happy it can then be released, which can take days or even weeks.
Yours Sincerely
James.

ParticipantJames,
Understood, thank you for your transparency. In the meantime, would you be able to tell me which files in my xml are bugging? I can take them out of the export and replace them with a black screen, as long as no real audio is compromised. I only need to give this aaf to our Sound Supervisor correctly timed as soon as I can; it can have the black screen flaws for now.Adam

Participant[URGENT] X2Pro5 “Cannot Open” Error
Hi
I am facing an urgent issue with X2Pro5 on a tight production deadline. Every time I click convert to generate an AAF, I instantly get a generic “Cannot Open” pop-up with no specific error codes (screenshot attached).
Media Locations: Cleared all locations and re-added the top-level root external drives.
macOS Permissions: Confirmed X2Pro5 has Full Disk Access and Files and Folders permissions.
FCPXML Integrity: Re-imported the .fcpxml back into FCP, and it loads perfectly with zero offline media.
Settings: Tried toggling “Discard disabled clips” and changing preferences, but the error persists.
Thanks in advance,

ParticipantHi
I am facing an urgent issue with X2Pro5 and we are currently on a tight production deadline. Every time I click convert to generate an AAF, I instantly get a generic “Cannot Open” pop-up with no specific error codes (screenshot attached).
Media Locations: Completely cleared all locations and re-added the top-level root external drives.
macOS Permissions: Confirmed X2Pro5 has Full Disk Access and Files and Folders permissions enabled.
FCPXML Integrity: Re-imported the exact same .fcpxml back into FCP, and it loads perfectly with zero offline media.
Settings: Tried toggling “Discard disabled clips” and changing preferences, but the error persists.
This is completely blocking our audio post-production workflow. Any immediate help or workaround
Thanks in advance,

ParticipantHi James
I tried importing an older XML file that was compatible with X2Pro Convert into X2Pro 5, but it didn’t work. The same file imports normally with X2Pro Convert, but the XML for Murder Trailer is version 1.14. I urgently need help.09/07/2026 at 9:58 am #1511James Carrick

KeymasterThe cause of the cannot open error has been identified and fixed, we are preparing a new release which will be available through the App Store soon. If you can provide an XML which shows this error when processed we can take a look at it and confirm that your problem is the same as the one which has just been fixed.
