ParticipantHi! I tried about 50 different times today to convert a XML file to AAF and it kept giving me the error “Cannot Open”. X2Pro5 has access to the external hard drive that I am editing on as well as access to my computer’s entire hard drive (see attached). I tried exporting the XML file in for final cut versions 1.12, 1.13 and 1.14 and I keep getting the same response. I think that Final Cut did an update so I’m wondering if that is the problem? Please help asap if at all possible.

KeymasterDear J,
Cannot Open, is a pretty generic Apple error, it could be caused by a number of different things. Could you try after applying each of the following please.
1, On the “Project” tab, treble click to remove the entry in the Destination AAF Folder, create a folder on the desktop and drag this into the Destination window.
2, In “media locations” tab remove all locations. On the Project tab, drag the Project into the source window. Check “media locations” are auto populated.
3, For the drives / folders / locations listed in “media locations” add all users read / write access.
4, On your machine go to the “Apple Icon” (top left), “System Settings”, “Privacy and Security”, “Full Disk Access”, search for the X2Pro5 app and add this so it has full disk access.
If none of the above works, can you send a screen shot or video of when the error pops up as this should help us narrow down what is calling cannot open. Can you also upload the FCPXMLD please.
Many thanks
James.

ParticipantThanks! I tried all of your suggestions and it still isn’t working. It worked last week so I don’t know what happened. Here is a screenshot and the files from different versions of Final Cut.

ParticipantI figured out why it isn’t working – it’s an MXF file. So I just had to re-edit the project in pro-res. While I have you though. Is there a way to get X2Pro to see Final Cut’s audio fades? I know you can do it manually by making keyframes on the audio but I like using the popup for different types of fades instead (see attached) by right clicking on the grey fade in or out tool.

ParticipantI am having the same issue ever since FCP upgraded last week.
I can’t get any XML file to open, even ones that work just a few days ago.
Tried all your suggestions, nothing is working.05/07/2026 at 8:52 pm #1475nsaati1
ParticipantI got it to work by removing all Adjustment layers and titles in my edit. Or else it would give me cannot open error. a bit annoying, hopefully it gets fixed.

KeymasterHi Nsaati1
Would you be able to upload the FCPXMLD you were working on that had “Cannot open” errors and we can take a look at it.
Many thanks

ParticipantHi James,
I was able to get it to work by replacing all video with an empty placeholder slug extended to the exact length of the project.
So anything visual: clips, subtitles, titles, etc. deleted.
I attached a version with the video still intact, IE the one giving me trouble.

KeymasterHi J Hi Adam,
We can see what the issue is, there are files that are referenced as having Audio but do not actually have any, it is some of the jpg files in your project J, and some of the png files in your project Adam. if it was just one or two odd references we would modify your projects to get you up and running. We will have development looking at a fix for this today. Will advise soonest.
Yours Sincerely
James.

ParticipantIt seems the app isn’t working properly.
Has this been the case since the FCP update?
I used to use X2PRO, but since I bought X2PRO5 I’ve been unable to access it and can’t work with it.
This is a real problem because I paid a high price for it, yet the service isn’t up to scratch.
How can you resolve all these issues?
There are many of us in this situation.
I look forward to your advice and solutions as my work depends on it.
Thank you -
