ParticipantHello, I needed to delete the proxy files for the colorist in FCPX and I’m thinking that somehow made creating an AAF from X2Pro5 impossible? The XML immediately stops after the “creating aaf” stage, prompting an error “COULD NOT OPEN” message. But when I locate the file(s) I play them and they are perfect. I have attached the XML, if you can figure this out or create the AAF for me with 5 second handles I’d be eternally grateful. The footage is from RED KOMODO.

KeymasterThe XML has lines like this throughout:
media-rep kind=”proxy-media” sig=”21B143BD7AF67563AD826DF74199F89C” src=”file:///Volumes/MAIN%20%232/RESCUED%20DAY%2012%20-%2024/DAY%2016/FOOTAGE/A032/A032_0222S0.RDM/A032_A009_022209.RDC/A032_A009_022209_001.R3D”
These are what X2Pro can’t open, there are 594 references to Proxy Media files. It may be possible to ‘fix’ this by re-importing the FCPXML to FCP and off-lining all of the files that are no longer present.

ParticipantIf I transcode the timeline and create the proxies again, that should fix it right?

KeymasterHi, We wouldn’t be able to generate an embedded AAF without the source files. I can successfully generate a reference AAF but I don’t think that will help you.
Have you tried making the off-line re-exporting the FCPXML?
Also try X2Pro5 with the ‘Discard disabled clips’ and ‘Discard inactive clips’ selected.29/08/2025 at 2:48 pm #1279dhalesc3
ParticipantCan you walk me through how to do what you suggested? Sorry, I am new to FCPX.

KeymasterHi, Sorry for the slow response, I’ve been running a series of extensive tests. In doing so have found that the best way to make this work is do exactly what you suggested. I.E. ‘If you transcode the timeline, it will re-generate the proxy media’. After doing that you’ll need to re-export the FCPXML (this ensures the bookmarks reference the newly created proxy clips). The new FCPXML should work in X2Pro5.
